Using the store and PC download guide

The following instructions are here to help you download your order to a Windows PC.

Please note that PC content is only compatible with Windows PCs and will not work with an Apple Mac system.

For the best experience it is recommended that you use a Windows XP or above based computer with Windows Media Player 10 or above.

Finding and ordering content

The latest content and chart is available immediately on the home page. You can select this, but if you are after something more specific you will need to search for it.

The search box is always available at the top of the page. To search for something, enter the name of an artist or the title of a song. To get the best results try to be specific and be careful of spelling. If an artist or song has a strange spelling, your search might not bring back what you expect.

If you want more control over your search, simply click the magnifier link without entering anything and you will be given the full search options.

The search results will be displayed after you click the search magnifier icon. The results may show only a single item if the search was very specific. If there are many results these will be split into albums, singles, tracks and other items (which includes mobile).

Clicking on an item opens the full details listing all the information as appropriate.

To add an item to the basket, simply click the basket icon. You will see a pop-up saying the item was added, and your basket in the top right hand corner will have changed.

To view your basket, simply click the basket and it will open up giving options to remove items and to checkout.

Placing an order

To place your order, click "Checkout".

If you are not already signed in, you will be asked to sign in. If you do not yet have an account, you can register for one. You will be sent an email asking you to confirm your email address.

You cannot order PC content until you have received and clicked on this link.

 

Once you are signed in, you will see the Basket Summary page where you can review what you have in your basket.

To continue with your order, click "Continue". You will be taken to the payment page. Depending on what items you have ordered you may have the option of alternative payment methods. For all PC content, you can only pay by credit card.

Once you have entered all your details, click "Place Order".

You will see a summary page thanking you for the order and you will receive an order reference. If you have missed any information or there was a problem, you will see an error message. Please complete the missing information before submitting your order.

Click "Continue" to be taken to the order details page where you will be able to download your items. For mobile items, a download link will be sent separately to the mobile number you gave earlier. See our Mobile Guide for downloading to a mobile phone.

Downloading your order

For all orders you cannot download any items until payment has been received in full. This may take a short while for your payment to be processed. For mobile orders that have been placed by SMS, you must wait for all the billed messages to be received before you will receive the download link.

 

Downloading a single track

To download a single track, scroll down the page and click the icon on the right-hand side. This will start the download of the track. You will be prompted for a location to save the file to. We recommend that you store it in "My Music" or a similar easy-to-remember location.

Downloading using the Download Manager

If you have ordered an album, several albums or many tracks, you will want to use the Download Manager. This makes downloading multiple items very simple.

To use the Download Manager, you will need to use Internet Explorer 6 or above. The Download Manager is an Active-X plugin that runs in your browser. Once you have downloaded and installed it correctly (full instructions are contained in the Download Manager) you simply select the location to store the files, and then click the "Download" button.

Please note: at this time there are several issues with Windows Vista. You may experience problems with the Download Manager using this version of Windows.

Playing your content for the first time

To play your files for the first time, you must use Windows Media Player.

When you try to play the file, you will be prompted to acquire the licence for the content. Follow the instructions and wait for the licence to be acquired. It should only take a moment or two.

Once the licence has been downloaded, you can listen to your content.

Re-downloading orders

To re-download an order at a later time or if you lose a file, login to the My Account section of the site.

At the bottom of your details are your past orders. Select an order to view the full details and to be able to re-download the items.

For mobile items, you must contact customer care and have the download link sent again.
