Downloading to your Mobile Phone

These instructions are here to help you download your items to your mobile phone. All mobile content is downloaded in the same way. The images are taken from a SonyEricsson W880i phone. Your handset may differ. If you are not sure, please check with your phones instruction manual.

Before we begin...

This guide assumes that you have a modern handset with Mobile Internet access already enabled and a data plan to keep data charges low. If you are not sure about any of these items you should contact your Network Operator and discuss with them before attempting to download any content.

Receiving the WAP push

Once your order has been paid for, you will receive a WAP push (service message) or a link in a text message. This may appear in several places, on this handset it initially appears as an alert but can be accessed from the main SMS Inbox.

If you select the message you will be given an option to use the link, either to "Go to" or "Open" or something similar.

Viewing your order

After you use the link, you will be presented with an order summary page similar to the image. If you have ordered several items, each will have its own download link.

To download the item click the link you want to be taken to the download page.

Downloading your order

When it comes to downloading your item, there are two possibilities for how it will be received. The first is a "normal" download where you can use the file immediately after it has been downloaded. This is "pre-licenced" content.

The second type is "separately licenced" content. Here, you download the file as normal, but you can not play it until you have received the licence.

Pre-licenced Content

Click the link, and the download will begin. You may at this point be given the option to save the file to a specific location on your phone. Sometimes this only happens after the download has finished.

The file will be downloaded to your phone. This may take some time, depending on the size of the file and if you are using a 3G connection or not.

Once the download is completed, the phone may perform some checks on the file or ask you to save the file (if it has not done so already).

The file has been successfully downloaded to the phone and is now ready for use. On this phone the file was automatically placed in the "Music" folder on the memory stick. Your own phone may differ.

If the file is "Used Now", a menu will appear allowing it to be played or assigned as a ringtone (depending on the product).

Separately Licenced Content

Click the download now link. You will then be sent a "download summary" giving you the option to proceed or not. Click "ok" or "yes" and the download will begin.

Once downloaded you may see a message saying "Playback Failed". This is because you can not play the file yet.

Once the download has completed successfully you should receive the licence. This will appear almost immediately in most cases, however in sometimes you may not even see a message.

If you never receive the licence file, please contact customer care to have it re-sent to your phone.

On Nokia Series 40 handsets, you may see a prompt similar to "Un-signed activation key received. Do you want to use?". Be sure to say Yes or OK to use the key. On Nokia Series 60 handsets (Symbian handsets) the message may appear in your SMS Inbox. You need to open the message before the content will be activated. Other manufacturers may require similar steps. Most SonyEricsson handsets (particularly the Walkman line) will automatically licence the matching content on your phone.

If you are having difficulty receiving the licence files and / or WAP pushes, you may need to perform a "hard reset" of your phone. To perform this step, you must have your handset turned ON. Now remove the battery cover and then remove the battery. This will force the phone to re-connect to the network and re-register and should resolve issues with receiving messages.

Please note: you perform this action at your own risk.

Saving the file

Save the file, if you have not done so already. On this SonyEricsson audio tracks are always stored in the "Music" folder.

Playing the file

Once downloaded (and, if necessary, licenced) you should be able to play the file.

To find the file, you will need to open your phones file browser. From the main screen (the first screen that usually shows the Network name), you will need to access the main menu and then open the file manager application.

You will need to know the location of the file. In the preceeding steps it has been saved in the "Music" folder.

Inside the music folder are all the music tracks that have been downloaded or transferred to the handset. Browse to the file and then you can play it. If your file is a full length mobile track, you can now add it to your phones media player. Please check with your instruction manual on how to do this.
